Eilat International Belly Dance Festival – January 22-24 2009 at the Golden Tulip and the Royal

Israeli belly-dancing mixes the Arab style of the dance with worldwide influences including cabaret. This three day festival, in its fifth year, encompasses performances, workshops for would-be hip wigglers and a colourful bazaar selling costumes and more.

Eilat Chamber Music Festival – February 22-March 1 at Herod’s Pavilion Concert hall, Herod’s

Fourteen concerts are planned for the six days of this festival in 2009. The programme will include Maxim Vengerov leading a virtuosi orchestra performing Beethoven’s Eroica Symphony and former James Bond Sir Roger Moore narrating Saint Saens’ Carnival of the Animals. www.eilat-festival.co.il

Red Sea International Music Festival – February 26-28 2009

This annual festival of classical music draws hundreds of musicians and thousands of spectators. In its 8th year, the event will feature maestro Valery Gergiev and the Kirov Mariinsky Theatre.

Eilat Spring Migration festival – March 23-30 2009 at The Isrotel Agamin hotel in Eilat, (festival HQ) and various other locations.

During March Eilat is filled with birds re-fuelling during their migration. Free guided shuttle tours take festival-goers between local bird hotspots including mountains, desert and salt pans, local birding centres host activities and there are expert lectures and presentations in the evenings.

Red Sea International Jazz Festival – last week of August at portside outdoor arenas, King Solomon Hotel (clinics) and the Riviera Hotel (jam sessions).

This four day event has been held since 1987. Around ten concerts are staged per evening in Eilat while, for musicians, there are jam sessions and clinics with jazz artists. Jazz featured covers a broad spectrum from New Orleans to contemporary style to world music. www.redseajazzeilat.com

Mayor of Eilat’s Reception – Opening of the 60th Celebrations of Eilat:
Saturday February 28th, 7:30 P.M:
A festive Reception in the honor of Eilat celebrations hosted by the Mayor of Eilat, Meir Yitzhak Halevi, and Eilat’s founders. The Reception will take place at the Eilat History Museum.
The Residents of Eilat are invited to visit the Museum and the Art Gallery from Sunday – March 1st to Saturday- March 7th Free of charge and upon presenting a valid “Eilat Resident” certificate.

A special meeting of Eilat City Council in Shachamon Community Center in which the title “Yakir Eilat” will be awarded to six Eilat Residents which were involved in an extraordinary making and achievements in Eilat.
